Shooting in salisbury nc today

SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) - Police in Salisbury are investigating the city’s third homicide in three days.

On Tuesday night at approximately 10:57 p.m. officers responded to 642 Williams Street, just off Standish Street, regarding a reported shooting. Officers arrived and located Michael Rashad Payne, 29, who had sustained a gunshot wound.

Payne died from his injuries prior to being transported to Novant Heath Rowan Medical Center.

“Right now, upset,” said Payne’s brother, Eszavion Franklin. “I hate for this tragedy…and I’m just praying that we hear some news and see more, see how we can handle this.”

The Salisbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is actively investigating the incident and ask that anyone with information please contact Detective Everette at (704) 638-5333, (704) 638-5262 or email: [email protected]

Tips may also be submitted to Salisbury/Rowan Crime Stoppers, or by calling 1-866-639-5245.

On Sunday there was a homicide on Carpenters Circle that claimed the life of Gary Lowe, 39. On Tuesday morning just before 3:00 a.m., police say Arturo Alonso, 27, was stabbed to death. Brianna Vaughn was charged in that case.

Police have not said if the cases are related.

Gemale Black is head of the local chapter of the NAACP.  The organization has partnered with police in the Cease Fire program, aimed at reducing gun crime.

“We have a partnership with the Salisbury Police Department to go into high crime areas to tell people what Cease Fire is all about, pretty much if you see something, say something, you don’t have to contact the police department if you’re not comfortable, you can contact the NAACP directly,” Black said.

Black says the program needs more buy-in from the community…more volunteers to help go door-to door.  Black and Salisbury Police Chief Jerry Stokes believe the program has helped with investigations and likely has prevented some crime.  They say community involvement is the key to making it so that people like Eszavion aren’t mourning loved ones lost to gun violence.

“Right now I’m just upset, whoever did this is just, I’m heartbreaking, my family’s hearts are breaking.” Franklin said.

Police: 14-year-old shot, killed while playing video games in basement of Salisbury home, local schools on ‘precautionary lockdown’

SALISBURY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) – A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed by a stolen gun Sunday while playing video games in the basement of a Salisbury home, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

Authorities said a group of juveniles was passing around a gun in the basement of a home in the 800 block of Maple Avenue Sunday afternoon when it accidentally discharged, striking one of them.

Police identified the gun as stolen from an outside location.

The 14-year-old boy, a Salisbury High School student, was transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

Due to the sensitivity of the death, local schools were on precautionary lockdown.

Police said the incident is still under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5262.

Statement from Rowan-Salisbury School System:

“It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. A Salisbury High School student was involved in an incident over the weekend resulting in the death of the student.

Rowan-Salisbury Schools has a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this.

Salisbury High School has counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss.

Out of an abundance of caution, and due to the incident occurring in close proximity to Salisbury High School, Overton Elementary, Knox Middle, and Salisbury High School are in code yellow lockdown today with extra law enforcement presence.

The safety of our students is our top priority. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement as they continue their investigation and take all necessary measures in assuring that our schools remain safe.”

However, if I think about it, then I survived. Looking around, I realized that it was. The room resembled a corridor in a polyclinic. The queue was full of young boys and girls.

We have already learned how to say hello in Polish. There were also basic words that differed from the Ukrainian ones, although they sounded almost the same. That day began quite normally. Until lunchtime, we actively listened to lectures by Polish teachers.
