Ratings and Reviews

Advertisement has Changed My Opinion

I previously rated this app a five star rating. I still give it a five star rating, however, now, every time that I want to look up a word, I not only have pop up adds, but I have to hear the same old advertisements. It is virtually impossible to read and listen to advertisements, so I hope they remove the voice activated advertisements. Other than the adds, it is a great application!
I do enjoy the biographies of famous Authors and the opportunity to read quotes or examples of the authors' books and literatures. Especially from the 1800's. A glimpse into the past and how our cultures have evolved, regarding etiquette, and formalities. We have lost our higher standards of Education, especially regarding our English linguistics, vocabulary and composition. People spoke much more eloquently with dignity and their vocabularies were much more broader during the Middle-Ages, for example, playwright and actor William Shakespeare's writings were superb and he was born in 1564 and died during the dawning of the Renaissance period.

Thank you for your feedback. Please contact us at support[at]tfd[dot]com so we can try to determine why you are encountering these issues.

Purchased after reading reviews...

I downloaded the free version first, however I quickly saw that the quality of the info and the amount give was well worth the upgrade to get rid of the ads. I also realized that I have been using one other mobile dictionary for so many years that it would be great to see what another has to offer. The reviews were so consistently great that I had to download. I prefer ad free so I immediately sprung for the $2. It is well worth $2!!! It is more than worth $2 if you love words. I ended up here because I was looking for a proverb and ended up on the idiom page of the website and saw that I could download an app. My future use remains to be seen, however look forward to using this app and being motivated to grow my word strength again...

1st update...the idiom section includes a short video that gives examples of the idiom! It was simple, clear, quick, and very teachable. I love this app already!

Cough up 4 bucks for this app, people!!!

The app I think is so SO sooooo worth 4 bones. I LOVE it and the developers deserve to have this noticed and when u use a free version of an app often and you find it useful and interesting ans enlightening and well designed, it seems to me that paying for the one that costs just a few bucks is only fair to the developers. My philosophy is that when I have established I very much like the free version of any app and use it regularly, that it is a given to pitch in to support the people that made it. But... I dunno if people in this society of ours think much about the actual people behind the app... they dont get past the thought "is it free?". Well, people out there should use free apps all they want as I do, but the ones i use regularly I will upgrade once they become a common go to for me. But that's me.

The Free Dictionary is an American onlinedictionary and encyclopedia that aggregates information from various sources.

Content[edit]

The site cross-references the contents of The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, the Collins English Dictionary, the Columbia Encyclopedia, the Computer Desktop Encyclopedia, the Hutchinson Encyclopedia (subscription), and Wikipedia, as well as the Acronym Finder database, several financial dictionaries, legal dictionaries, and other content.[3]

It has a feature that allows a user to preview an article while positioning the mouse cursor over a link. One can also double-click on any word to look it up in the dictionary.

Site operator[edit]

The site is run by Farlex, Inc., located in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania.

Farlex also maintains a companion title, The Free Library, an online library of out-of-copyright classic books and a collection of periodicals of over four million articles dating back to 1984, and definition-of.com,[4] a community dictionary of slang and other terms.

Mirroring Wikipedia[edit]

Wikipedia content is hosted at the sub-domain encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com,[5] which is excluded from search-engine indexing in its entirety by Farlex with the use of meta tags. This is done to avoid duplicate content in the search-engine results and prevent user traffic that would otherwise go to Wikipedia.

The Free Library[edit]

The Free Library is a free reference website that offers full-text versions of classic literary works by hundreds of authors. It is also a news aggregator, offering articles from a large collection of periodicals containing over four million articles dating back to 1984. Newly published articles are added to the site daily. The site comprises a selection of articles from open-access journals that can in many cases also be found on a journal's own website.

It is a sister site to The Free Dictionary and usage examples in the form of "references in classic literature" taken from the site's collection are used on The Free Dictionary's definition pages. In addition, double-clicking on a word in the site's collection of reference materials brings up the word's definition on The Free Dictionary.

Dictionary free

Wiktionary:Main Page

Welcome to the English-language Wiktionary, a collaborative project to produce a free-content multilingual dictionary. It aims to describe all words of all languages using definitions and descriptions in English.

Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included.

Wiktionary is a wiki, which means that you can edit it, and all the content is dual-licensed under both the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License. Before you contribute, you may wish to read through some of our help pages, and bear in mind that we do things quite differently from other wikis. In particular, we have strict layout conventions and inclusion criteria. Learn how to start a page, how to edit entries, experiment in the sandbox and visit our Community Portal to see how you can participate in the development of Wiktionary.

It was difficult to name what this woman wore, even a mini skirt in the usual sense of the word. Since the skirt was so tight-fitting and so short that it seemed that the woman came in only panties. Only coming closer, everyone around could understand that the woman was actually wearing a skirt over the thongs that were also visible. The.
