Man believed to be homeless shot and killed, security guard arrested

LOS ANGELES - A man is dead and a security guard is in custody after a shooting in Panorama City.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call of a shooting outside a 7-Eleven near Arminta Street and Van Nuys Boulevard a little before 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon. 

The shooting killed a man who is believed to be homeless. LAPD says the shooting stemmed from an argument involving the man and an armed security guard.

The armed security guard was taken into custody.

A man was shot dead and another man was wounded at a gathering inside an apartment building in Van Nuys, police said Sunday.

Officers dispatched at 10:09 p.m. Saturday to the 13700 block of Vanowen Street found a man on the sidewalk suffering from several gunshot wounds, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital and his condition was not immediately known.

Officers were directed to the third floor of an apartment complex and found another victim lying in the exterior hallway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. That man, approximately 40 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said there was a gathering inside one of the apartment units where an argument broke out between two of the guests and a shooting occurred. 

Detectives were attempting to identify people at the gathering as well as any suspects.

Assailant sought after man fatally shot in Van Nuys gas station parking lot

A man was fatally shot in a gas station parking lot in Van Nuys Tuesday afternoon, spurring a search for the assailant.

The incident occurred about 3 p.m. at the intersection of Sherman Way and Woodley Avenue, Los Angeles Police Department officials said in a news release Wednesday.

Responding officers found the victim, 42-year-old Elvis Castellanos, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

An investigation revealed that the assailant got out of a dark SUV, approached the victim on foot and shot him multiple times, police said.

The shooter then ran back to the SUV as another person behind the wheel drove out of the parking lot and away from the scene. The vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Sherman Way

The assailant was wearing a gray hoodie and a blue face mask.

No further details about the shooting have been released.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a man in Van Nuys early Wednesday morning.

Gunshots were reported at around 2 a.m. in the area of Peach Avenue and Hart Street, according to Los Angeles police.

Officers arrived on scene to find a man with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene, police said. His name was not released.

The circumstances of the killing were unclear. Footage from the scene appeared to show a minivan which had driven into a fence.

No suspects have been arrested and no motive has been identified. It’s unclear if the shooting is gang-related.

Murders have been on the rise in L.A. On Tuesday, the LAPD reported that there were 19 homicides in the first twelve days of 2021. That’s up from nine in the first 12 days of 2020.

“Shooting violence has continued at a velocity that does need a great deal of concern,” LAPD Chief Michel Moore said during Tuesday’s Los Angeles Police Commission meeting. “Of the 19 homicides, 12 we know, right now, we believe are involved in gangs or are gang-related in one fashion or another.”

PANORAMA CITY, CA — A person was shot and killed on Van Nuys Boulevard Thursday afternoon, and another person was apprehended in connection with the shooting.

The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. near a 7-Eleven at Arminta Avenue and Van Nuys Boulevard, according to Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations Division.

Police did not immediately release a shooter description nor a motive for the killing.

The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

LAPD detectives continued to investigate the scene Thursday evening, Im said. The parking lot around the convenience store was cordoned off.
